How do I handle a deed with a Maiden Name?

If a grantor has changed his or her name as a result of marriage, divorce or otherwise, you should list all the names that were used in prior recorded deeds with appropriate qualifications such as “aka” for “also known as” or “fka” for “formerly known as.” So, Jane Doe who is now Jane Smith would be listed as: Jane Smith formerly known as Jane Doe.
